Criminal trials focus on evidence, procedures and defendant's rights. But behind every case number are lives permanently altered. Sentencing is where that truth finally speaks.

That's when survivors and loved ones deliver Victim Impact Statements (VIS) - giving voice to the voiceless, voice to the victims and voice to everyone shattered by these unimaginable crimes. A VIS is grief given a language. It's trauma spoken aloud. A moment for survivors and loved ones to reclaim their voice and be heard.

In this powerful and emotional session, brave members of our community take the stage to share their own Victim Impact Statements. Some have been read in court; others have never been spoken aloud-- until now.

Moderated by Renee Williams of the National Center for Victims of Crime, this deeply moving session explores why a VIS matters - not only in the pursuit of justice but also on the long road toward healing.
