George Ervin is a seasoned law enforcement professional with more than 24 years of experience in policing and major felony investigations. A Chicago native, he currently serves as a Detective Sergeant with the Berkeley Police Department in Missouri where he is assigned to the Bureau of Investigations. In this role, he handles cases involving homicides, shootings, sexual assaults, crimes against children, thefts, and missing persons, working to bring justice to victims and their families.
Det. Sgt. Ervin began his career as a student patrolman at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville before joining Berkeley PD as a patrol officer. He rose through the ranks to Corporal, Field Training Officer, and ultimately Detective Sergeant, where he leads the Bureau of Investigations. In that role, he manages complex, high-volume caseloads and plays a key part in strengthening the department’s major crime clearance rates.
He also serves as a homicide investigator with the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis, collaborating across jurisdictions to solve violent crimes. Working alongside fellow investigators, Ervin has helped bring resolution to some of the region’s most challenging cases.
At CrimeCon, Ervin shares a rare, firsthand account of a case that defies explanation: a haunting investigation involving suspected cult ties and the disappearance of six adults and two children. As one of the original investigators on the scene, he offers a deep dive into the staggering complexities and the frustrating dead ends that continue to drive the search for truth.
