Kate Aurthur, Variety's managing editor, joined the magazine in August 2019 as Editor at Large, after working at BuzzFeed News for more than six years as Chief Los Angeles Correspondent. During her time at Variety, Aurthur has overseen TV features, and has written multiple cover stories, ranging from deep dives into "Stranger Things," “Schitt’s Creek” and “Grey’s Anatomy” to profiles of Margot Robbie and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. She has also won three Los Angeles Press Club awards.
After getting her start at the New York Times, Aurthur moved from New York City to Los Angeles in 2006 to be the television editor at the Los Angeles Times. From there, she became the Deputy West Coast Bureau Chief at The Daily Beast and oversaw the site’s entertainment coverage.
