About me
Detective Tara Augustin has worked for the Montgomery County Police Department in Maryland for approximately 20 years, with 15 years of experience as an investigator. Detective Augustin’s work in solving the Leslie Preer cold case homicide has been featured on episodes of ABC’s 20/20, NBC’s Dateline, and Law&Crime’s Prime Crime with Jesse Weber. In addition to general investigations, she has worked in the Gang Unit, the Robbery Section, and currently works in the Cold Case and Missing Persons Section of the Major Crimes Division where she is also a member of the Human Remains Recovery Team. Detective Augustin has received the Department of Justice Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service and the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces Director’s Special Group Achievement Award for her work as a Task Force Officer with the FBI on a federal VICAR/RICO gang case, as well as the Montgomery County Department of Police Investigative Services Bureau Employee of the Quarter award for her work on a Cold Case Homicide.
